A NATIONAL military-
style obstacle challenge that
includes a local event at Caudo
Vineyards will again enjoy
the support of local business
Nippy's this year.
True Grit was first held at
the Hogwash Bend site in 2013
and has grown to see events also
held in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney,
Townsville and Melbourne in 2014.
As another company proud
of its Riverland origins, Nippy's
last year developed its own True
Grit sports drink in support of
The SA-based company hopes
the drink will rival its competition
for fridge space, with three
flavours already being distributed
in Foodlands and various other
outlets across Australia.
Nippy's finance manager Ben
Knispel said the relationship
with True Grit began when the
company approached them seeking
a beverage partner for the event.
"The first event was held in
Waikerie and it's returning to
Waikerie this year, so we thought
it was good to get behind them
because they're looking to invest
fairly significantly in the area,"
"The relationship has really
grown from there."
Mr Knispel said Nippy's had
also sought to boost the range of
beverages it provided by creating
a sports drink.
"We identified in our own drink
range that having a portfolio of
products that our distributors
can take to a store is important,"
Mr Knispel said the True Grit
product was unique because it
was the only sports drink on the
market containing coconut water,
a natural source of hydration.
Meanwhile two refurbished
four-wheel-drive Land Rovers,
formerly used as military vehicles,
were converted into Nippy's DJ
trucks and were also launched
The vehicles made their debut at
True Grit events across Australia
and later visited Riverland
celebrations including the
Christmas pageants at Waikerie,
Barmera and Renmark.
Mr Knispel said DJs were hired
to operate audio equipment on
the trucks, which received a lot of
positive responses -- particularly
from True Grit competitors.
"They got a real kick out of
getting a photo taken with it along
the way through the obstacle
course," he said.
April's return of True Grit
to Hogwash Bend will see the
reappearance of the two trucks,
along with Nippy's sports drink
promotions and a mobile beverages
Mr Knispel said the Nippy's van
was a good opportunity for local
sporting groups to get involved
with the event while also raising
funds for their clubs.
"I certainly got some positive
feedback from the Waikerie Netball
Club when they were selling drinks
from the van last year," he said.
Construction is already under
way at Caudo Vineyards to make
this year's True Grit challenge -- to
be held on Saturday, April 26, and
Sunday, April 27 -- bigger and better.
Registrations are already open
for the event and can be made
with True Grit
