WAIKERIE dominated with
a 9-3 win against Barmera
in Friday night's game in
Riverland division one tennis.
Scores were close after the dou-
bles, with only a tiebreaker win to
Penny Kroehn and Tianna Adamc-
zyk keeping Waikerie in front.
Waikerie dominated the sin-
gles rubbers throughout, with
only Brooke Penney getting up for
Barmera, beating Adamczyk 6-4 in
an entertaining game.
Troy Lehmann, Tom Waterson,
Shaun Steele, Steven Braun and
Kroehn all found the going rela-
tively easy in their singles wins for

Dominant win in division one tennis
ALL four Waikerie Saturday pennant
bowls teams have made the finals,
making it the best year for the Waikerie
club in many years.
Now to finish the season off with some
The first division collected enough points
from Berri at Berri on Saturday to ensure they
take part in the play-offs and the other three
teams -- second, third and fourth divisions -- all
qualified top of their respective ladders.
On top of this, the Wednesday afternoon
triples team finished in second position and
will play off in the decider today at Renmark.
First division: In what is always a tough
ask, Waikerie was more than a match for the
Berri side that has dominated Riverland bowls
for some 10 years on three of the rinks. Berri:
91 def Waikerie: 75.
Brian Burnett's side again proved too good
winning 19 to 16.
The Barry Harden rink held on in an excit-
ing game to finish 19-all and the Roger Davies-
led rink lost 23 to 24.
Wayne Collins' side started well but had a
horror stretch, losing nine out of 10 ends in the
middle stages of their game.
They finished well behind, 14 to 32, against
Berri's recent state representative Andrew
The firsts will play in a sudden death semi
final on Saturday at Renmark against Loxton
RSL, the team they beat two weeks ago. A win
in this game means the team will play in the
preliminary final at Renmark RSL on Sunday.
There is a little bit of confidence among the
first graders that they just might be able to go
a bit further in this competition now that they
Second division: The seconds put on a
powerhouse performance against major con-
tender Renmark at Renmark to wrap up top
spot on the ladder.
Waikerie: 68 def Renmark: 48.
All four rinks had wins with Bill Haby 26
to 23, Drew Schapel 18 to 11 and the super con-
sistent David Thompson rink of Mark Boehm,
Grant Hall and Derek Brown winning 24 to 14.
On Saturday they are up against the
Monash side at home. They have met twice
during the season and have recorded a com-
fortable win each.
But this is finals and hopefully the home
ground will have some part to play. A loss
would see them with a second chance, playing
at Renmark RSL on Sunday.
A win would see them in the grand final at
Loxton RSL on Saturday, February 28.
Third division: Another major challenge
for the thirds saw them win 61 to 55 over se-
rious finals contender Monash. This time it
was back to the past with Brian Oliver's rink
saving the day with a win 27 to 11 and also se-
curing the top spot on the ladder and a home
ground advantage for the first game.
The other rinks were down: John Mortimer
17 to 22 and Fred King 17 to 22. The opposition
on Saturday will be Renmark.
The teams have met twice this year for one
win each. A loss would see Waikerie play at
Lyrup on Sunday and a win means grand final
glory against Loxton RSL.
Fourth division: The fourth division side
had a bye in the final round, so had to sit it out
waiting on the result of the Berri Blue team.
Fortunately, the Monash side did them a huge
favour by defeating the Berri side and so the
club managed its third minor premiership.
Unfortunately, the club is unable to fit every-
one in at home so the fourth division side has
opted to play its final at Barmera up against
the Berri Blue team. The sides have met three
times this year for two wins and one loss.
A loss would see them at Lyrup on Sunday
and a win would see them at Loxton in the
grand final on February 28.
The final wash-up of the country carnival
singles in Adelaide saw Waikerie's John Segn-
eri make it through to the semi finals in what
was an amazing effort.
The Waikerie club will host the zone knock-
outs for the state triples on February 28. This
is the same day as the Riverland preliminary
finals so many players won't know if they will
play in the state event until the Saturday after
the semi finals.
