INCONSISTENCY seems to be in the
past for Waikerie's Saturday pennant
bowlers, with two wins on the trot
against Loxton RSL and Berri.
The defeated teams were first and second
on the Riverland bowls ladder, meaning

The previous week (Saturday, December
6) had losing rinks skipped by Gary Pursche,
Wayne Collins and Roger Davies all had
success (26-14, 20-19 and 22-17).
Dixie Lee's winning rink from the
Renmark game went down 25-24 even though
it had won more ends during the day than its
Last Saturday the form guide held together,
and the Waikerie side toppled the competition
favourite, Berri, in a tight game at home.
The Berri side had only lost two games in
the past two seasons, but there was a confident
feeling around the home club during the week
that it could get away with a win.
This confidence showed through on
Gary Pursche had a 25-18 win, Dixie Lee
had a 20-17 win, Wayne Collins had a 20-17 win
and Roger Davies had a 16-24 loss.
The club will see how that form holds up
this weekend when the first division plays a
double header against the two Loxton sides.
Waikerie will play Loxton Blue at home on
Saturday before taking on Loxton Yellow away
Second division: As expected, the
Waikerie side maintained its top-of-the-table
position with a solid win over Barmera, 61-47.
This follows a strong showing the previous
week against Renmark RSL, 75-39.
David Thompson and his rink of Peter
Fechner Brian Rogers and Derek Brown had
a 22-13 win.
Grant Hall had an equally strong win.
Bill Haby had another tight affair but
managed to get away with an 18-all draw.
The second division's double header this
weekend is against Loxton on Saturday and
Monash on Sunday.
Both of these teams are in contention
for the finals positions, so it will be a trying
Third division: The side had a bit of a
reshuffle, with Marc Boehm taking over a
skipper's position, and also welcomed Kevin
Rice to the club.
Boehm showed he is a natural with a big
36-10 win, John Mortimer also registered a
big win, 29-13, and Brian Oliver had a 19-13
The third division will play Loxton and
Loxton RSL both away this weekend for its
Both of these teams (seventh and eighth
on the ladder) will be desperate for wins to
keep their finals hopes alive.
Fourth division: The fourth division
bowlers a bye this week and, in a competition
that is very compressed, will have to get back
on the winners list quickly.
They have games against Loxton and
Monash this weekend.
Wednesday afternoon triples: The
midweek triples competition goes into round
12 this week.
The Waikerie side, after a slow start, is now
threatening the top teams.
In fact you have to go back to round three to
find the last loss the team had.
The Waikerie side has moved steadily up
the ladder from 11th after three rounds to
third after 11.
It is now only eight points from the top
team, and will play low-placed Barmera Blue

Red and Berri Red, will meet each other at
